Lennon, Smith, Souleret Engineering, Inc. (LSSE) is currently providing engineering services for Center Township Water Authority’s (CTWA) new $65 Million potable water source of supply and surface water treatment plant. This complex public works project is being delivered in two phases on an accelerated schedule, dictated by a third-party developer.

Phase 1, with a final construction value of approximately $28 million, included alternatives analysis, treatability studies, sampling, detailed design, permitting, bidding, construction, coordination with the developer, and start-up of an interim river intake and interim conventional surface water treatment plant in just 20 months. The project was delivered using 15 separate concurrent material and construction contracts to achieve the compressed project schedule. Phase 1 was completed in September 2016. The capacity of the interim facilities is 3 million gallons per day (MGD).

For Phase 2, CTWA has decommissioned its wellfield and groundwater treatment plant and construction of the permanent surface water intake and water treatment plant is currently in the preliminary design phase. The capacity of the permanent facilities will be 5 MGD.

The Center Township Water Authority Project received awards from two local engineering societies — The Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania and the American Society of Civil Engineers Pittsburgh Section — with both recognizing the Interim Water Treatment Plant in their Annual Award ceremonies.
