Martinsburg Wastewater Treatment Plant

Client: Martinsburg Municipal Authority
Location: Martinsburg, Blair County, PA

Comprehensive planning, design and permitting for construction of a 1.2 mgd advanced secondary municipal sewage treatment plant providing BOD5, suspended solids, ammonia nitrogen and phosphorus reduction for discharge to a small headwater tributary to the Susquehanna River Basin.

This project included SSES and related infiltration / inflow (I/I) investigations, flow monitoring and I/I mitigation. The project resulted in the elimination of 50% of measured I/I by replacing approximately 10% of existing sanitary sewers. The replacement included the installation of new parallel sanitary sewer system up to individual basements and conversion of the existing sewers to a dedicated groundwater underdrain.
