Pleasant Hills Breisinger Field
LSSE provided civil engineering design, bidding phase, and construction phase services for the sports complex at Breisinger Field, located next to the Borough’s municipal building. The new $2 million complex is home to a FIFA-recommended One Star synthetic turf soccer field and accommodates local soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse teams. The project included demolition of existing facilities, improvements including a significant amount of excavation and grading, installation of the soccer field and a new scoreboard, associated storm and sanitary sewer improvements, construction of a pre-engineered salt storage dome and installation of new localized, electrical and LED lighting for the dome and scoreboard, site drainage, and installation of perimeter fencing including a section of 28’ high fence and netting at one portion of perimeter of the field.
LSSE provided design services, including surveys, preparation of conceptual plans, cost estimates, preliminary and final design plans, preparation of an NPDES permit, bidding phase services, and preparation of contract documents. LSSE also provided construction phase and Resident Project Representative services during the construction of the field.
After the construction of the field in 2016 and as a result of an increase in demand for field use, the Borough Council and LSSE were able to secure grant funding to increase hours of operation by incorporating lights.
LSSE provided design and bidding phase services, including a Public Hearing related to lighting photometrics in the Breisinger Field, which is located immediately adjacent to a multi-story apartment building. As part of the lighting program, 80’ tall lighting poles with 30-foot-candle controlled lighting were installed at Breisinger Field.
This portion of the project also included the installation of new conduit, transformer, and pad, a retaining wall, transformer scoreboard access road, and auxiliary improvements required for construction.
LSSE’s technical services included site layout, electrical layout and design, and construction phase project management professional services throughout construction. LSSE also prepared photometric plans to review potential spillover onto adjacent properties. In terms of lighting controls, the installed lights are controllable remotely through a on-line monitoring system complete with a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty, which includes daily monitoring of the system by the manufacturer.
The poles also provide strategic, ancillary benefits via enhanced security lights, as well as lighting flexibility for the adjacent municipal parking lot.
